TRIBUTE TO MY LATE CHAIRMAN ELVIS OTIENO BEAST
Noah ArapKalya August 4, 2026 Bomet

There are people who pass through our lives, and there are people who change the direction of our lives forever. Elvis "Beast" Otieno belonged to the latter. Today, as I write these words, I do so not only as the Secretary General of Visionary Alliance for Ruto (VAR), but as a brother, a friend, a mentor, and a leader whose life I had the privilege to witness from our university days.

I first met Elvis during our time at the Technical University of Mombasa. Those were the days when dreams were born, leaders were shaped, and lifelong friendships were forged. It was during campus politics that I came to know the man behind the name "Beast." While many saw confidence and charisma, I saw humility, determination, courage, and an unwavering belief that leadership exists to serve others.

When Elvis contested for the Presidency of the Technical University of Mombasa Students' Organization, I had the honour of leading his campaign team as Campaign Chairman. We walked together through lecture halls, hostels, and every corner of the university, sharing one vision—to build leadership that put students first. His victory was not merely an electoral win; it was the triumph of hope, hard work, and genuine service. Even then, it was evident that he was destined for greater responsibilities beyond the university gates.

Our friendship never ended with graduation. Instead, it grew stronger. Together we continued to believe that young people deserved a meaningful place in shaping the future of our nation. That shared vision gave birth to Visionary Alliance for Ruto (VAR), an organization that Elvis founded with unmatched passion, commitment, and courage. He dreamed of a movement where young leaders could organize, inspire communities, and contribute positively to Kenya's development.

Elvis never sought leadership for personal glory. He led because he genuinely cared about people. His hands were always open, his phone was always available, and his heart always had room for someone who needed encouragement. He lifted others without expecting recognition. He celebrated the success of those around him more than his own achievements.

To many, he was Chairman. To others, he was Founder. To countless young people, he was a mentor. But to me, he was a brother whose loyalty never wavered. Through victories and challenges, he remained consistent—honest in counsel, fearless in conviction, and generous in spirit. He believed in people long before they believed in themselves. Many leaders standing today carry a piece of Elvis's encouragement within them.

His greatest gift was not the positions he held or the titles he earned. His greatest gift was the people he empowered. A true leader does not create followers; a true leader creates leaders. Elvis accomplished exactly that.

His passing has left a void that words cannot fully describe. It is difficult to accept that the voice which inspired us, the laughter that energized every meeting, and the presence that united us have fallen silent. Yet even in death, his legacy continues to speak. It speaks through every member of VAR, every life he touched, every opportunity he created, and every dream he encouraged.

As Secretary General of Visionary Alliance for Ruto, I make this promise: we shall not allow the vision of our founder to fade. We will continue building the movement you began. We will stand for unity, servant leadership, integrity, and youth empowerment—the principles you lived for every single day.

Thank you, Elvis, for believing in me. Thank you for trusting me from our university days until the journey of building VAR together. Thank you for teaching us that leadership is measured not by power but by service, not by titles but by impact, and not by wealth but by the lives we transform.

Though your earthly journey has ended, your legacy will continue to guide generations. Your dreams now become our responsibility. Your vision becomes our mission.

Farewell, my Chairman.

Farewell, my Founder.

Farewell, my brother.

You fought a good fight. You led with honour. You served with humility. You loved without reservation.

Your footprints are permanently engraved in the history of Visionary Alliance for Ruto and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing you.
Rest in eternal peace, Elvis "Beast" Otieno
